Swapan Dasgupta

Swapan Dasgupta is a writer and political activist based in New Delhi and Kolkata (India).
He holds a doctorate in history from SOAS, University of London. He was a Research Fellow of Nuffield College, Oxford. A former journalist, he writes columns on politics in Sunday Times of India and Open Magazine. He served as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha from 2016 to 2023. He is a Member of the National Executive of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He is member of the advisory council of India Foundation, the Executive Council of the Prime Minister’s Museum & Library, and president of Khola Hawa ( Kolkata). He is the author of Awakening Bharat Mata: The Political Beliefs of the Indian Right ( Penguin India) and Nirad C. Chaudhury: The First Hundred Years (Harper Collins India). In 2015, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan (the third highest civilian award) by the President of India.
